To say that I have been looking forward to this remix would be a gross understatement. It has been four months since neongoldrecords, Marina and the Diamond‘s US debuting record label, were heralding it as the most amazing thing they had ever heard. Not surprisingly, I have been impatiently waiting ever since. The waiting has finally ended.

This remix is a shining example of the subtle art of remixing. It stands out in stark contrast to an environment contaminated with an overabundance of noisy, distracted, and limp attempts at reinterpretation. Clock Opera‘s chop pop style shines through this striking track; the result is distinct and interpretive in its differences, yet solidly grounded in its connection to the original. This is, in my opinion, the gold standard for a well refined remix. Also, having heard an early leak of the track, the mastering of this version is much better and heralds the epic nature appropriately.

The Antlers new LP, Hospice is slated for a March 3rd release date. I enjoyed these tracks and hope to get my hands on the album. Bear was especially intreaguing to me, delicately balancing balladic verses and a driving chorus. Look for a review late February or early March.

A good friend of mine showed me this song on YouTube and I was instantly addicted. Catchy hooks, sentimental lyrics, and the glistening vocals solidify a pop song that doesn’t loose its kick. Lucky Soul is UK based and is currently in the studio recording for an ’09 release.

Jóhann Jóhannsson – Fordlandia.mp3

Jóhann Jóhannsson has been my one of my favorite modern composers for a long time now. Fordlandia is his latest release which came out earlier this month. The title track amazingly relaxing, perfect to close out the week.
